The 3-4 Defense provides a detailed overview of the basic fundamentals, techniques, and various strategies to defend base running plays from the 3-4 defense, playing a 3-deep, 4-under zone. The DVD explains how to defend both two-back and one-back sets with the ability to bring pressure from either side of the offensive formation with sound pass coverage. Among the topics covered: Personnel considerations, pursuit, tackling, and elimination of the cutback run, base alignment, key reads, and techniques, run fits from the base front, 3-deep, 4-underneath zone with a 4-man rush, rotating the safeties in the 3-deep zone, coordinating line slants, run force, and outside linebacker play, and adjustment to one-back, four-wide offensive formations. 
  
 Biography

Mike Van Diest is the head football coach at Carroll College (MT), a position he assumed in 2000. In his exceptional tenure at the helm of the Fighting Saints’ gridiron program, Van Diest has led Carroll to extraordinary success. In the process, the Fighting Saints have earned six straight Final Four appearances in the NAIA national playoffs and have won four straight NAIA national championships, while averaging over 10 wins a season. One of the most highly respected defensive coaches in the game, Van Diest’s accomplished career includes stops at his alma mater (Wyoming), Montana, Massachusetts, and Northwestern.
